Q&A: Why do individuals always say white folks cant dance?

Question by mr dance moves: Why do people constantly say white people cant dance?
What the hell is wrong with this stereotype. I live in a hick town and nobody appears like they even know where the beats at. Not only that, they cant even do their own country dances like ive noticed on the cmt.(some country songs have line dances). The only time they come out to dance if they are drinking. Why not find out how to dance if you are going to the bar to dance?

You wouldnt think how a lot of men and women say “teach a white girl/boy how dance”
people im not making this is up. This is what here and this is what folks tell me when they come up to me all the time. if its a stereotype, it has absolutely nothing to do with black folks. Trigger its white individuals coming up to me and telling me this.
and for the record once again im not carrying out the stereotyping, they are. They are the ones who think the stereo. i have no black individuals coming up to me and saying white individuals cant dance, its the white folks saying it about themselves.
and dont mention men and women who are actors.and have people teaching them dance moves on sets so they can get it appropriate. Dancing=spur of the moment. Moving with the beat (yes there is a beat) and dancing to what ever. You should be able to copper head roll, drop it like its hot, line dance, waltz or whatever. If it takes you 100 occasions to find out a dance move or to get drunk. You arent a great dancer, sorry.

Q&A: What is the “Cotton Eyed Joe” about?

Question by travis_willard: What is the “Cotton Eyed Joe” about?
I’ve heard and danced to this country classic and dance hall preferred for a lengthy time, but I’ve never ever recognized what it’s lyrics meant.

Answer by Sabrina
The precise origins of this song are unclear though it predates the American Civil War[1] of 1902. Over the years, many diverse versions of the song have been recorded with many various versions of the lyrics (and many with out lyrics). For the duration of the first half of the twentieth century the song was a widely known folk song all more than English-speaking North America. In more recent decades, the song has waned in popularity in most regions except some parts of the American South where it is nonetheless a well-known folk song.

Ray Bensen of the Western Swing band Asleep at the Wheel talks about playing the Bob Wills version of “Cotton Eye Joe” in Texas in the 1970s, when the dance was quite a lot alive. [2]

A Western “Craze” followed the 1980 release of Urban Cowboy. Dancers nationwide even dressed the part in cowboy boots, hats, and jeans. To accommodate the singles in attendance, creative Texans resurrected old nonpartner, spoke-line dances (Cotton-eyed Joe) and invented new ones. They changed some of the formations from couple to spoke-lines and altered the steps to fit, so that lines produced up of content single dancers could link arms around each and every other’s waists and prance or glide happily about the hall. [three]

The Bob Wills version of the song is still popular with dancers. [4]

“Cotton Eye Joe”, and its continued recognition in Texas, was referred to in the lyrics to Alabama’s song “If You are Gonna Play in Texas.” “I keep in mind down in Houston we were puttin’ on a show When a cowboy in the back stood up and yelled, “Cotton-Eyed Joe”!”

Q&A: Country Line Dance Song “Now you’re walking by yourself?”?

Question by eyepod_nano: Country Line Dance Song “Now you’re walking by your self?”?
I went to a Square Dance and they taught us some line dances. I want to locate the song that we danced 1 to. The only line I remember is “Now you are walking by your self” or one thing like that. Does anybody know what it is known as?
No I don’t.

But the way the dance went was grapevine appropriate, grapevine left, two step proper, two step left, then a walking by your self? I do not remember what it was called precisely, but we fundamentally stepped in a slow circle, turning to face the other side. That’s when the song said the line “Now you’re walking by your self”.
Yeah, from what I was looking at the steps sound like Cupid Shuffle, but that does not seem to make sense cause I thought I remembered it getting a nation artist. Sigh. So confusing.

Can somebody fill me in on line dancing?

Question by CGirl: Can an individual fill me in on line dancing?
This may sound stupid, but I’m type of confused about line dancing. I truly like country music, but I live in a big city and the opportunities to go “true” line dancing are couple of and far in between. I went the other weekend while I was visiting friends in a different state, and had a blast – but how do you learn line dances? Is there a different dance for every single song, or how do you know what dance goes with what song? Any other details that could help? Thanks!

Greatest answer:

Answer by frances_lind
yes there is a different dance to every song. you know what dance goes to what song by name or by rhythm. any chacha line dance can go to any chacha rthym song.

check out youtube – search for line dances – there are hundreds on there.

check out sueandkathy.com. they have videos along w/ the stepsheets that go along w/ the dance on their site. these are dances being completed in the san francisco bay region.

check out worldlinedancenewsletter.com for line dance info for about the world.

Q&A: non-country line dance?

Question by mexico13: non-country line dance?
In school we’re doing line dances and my partner and I have to discover a dance and present it to the class. Does anybody know any good non-country (sorry country fans) line dances? I’d actually appreciate it if you could also contain music that would work properly with the song. Thank you so significantly, you are life savers.

Greatest answer:

Answer by QuillWriter
How about the electric slide? It was developed in 1976, but didn’t catch on until the 80′s, I believe. They still play it at many dances nowadays.

As for music, “Electric Boogie” is the original music I believe it was danced too, but I’m confident you could do it to other music as well, if you found 1 that fit.
